Directorial Contract Is an Industrial Mockery

Share

Re “Kindergarten Fellini,” Oct. 17: While I have nothing at all against encouraging burgeoning young talent, I am appalled by this latest Hollywood stunt of giving a 5-year-old a five-year directorial contract.

How dare Al Burton make a mockery of an industry in which there are so many talented, overlooked artists.

How cruel to bestow such inappropriate kudos when there are directors with something to say and changes to effect who remain stranded in anonymity because they don’t know the “right” people (or perhaps because they have already hit puberty?).

I understand there is an elephant whose paintings are all the rage--maybe Mr. Burton would like to contract him--the new Picasso of set design?!
