Cicero Farms Is a Local Asset

Share

What’s the difference between an upstanding business such as “Sue” Miller and his “The Price Is Fright Christmas Trees” and Cicero Farms at Pierce College?

“Sue” Miller gainfully employs lawyers to sue property owners who lease land to Christmas tree vendors without allowing his company to offer a competitive bid on the property.

Cicero Farms gainfully employed people who created lasting memories for those who used the farm. Families, teachers who took their students on field trips to Cicero Farms by the thousands, and the little ones themselves enjoyed an event they will fondly remember the rest of their lives.

“Sue” Miller spends about one month every year across from Pierce College selling trees, then pumps most of the riches back up north.

Cicero Farms offered sleigh rides and was a source of family fun to those who value quality time with their children, and Cicero lives in our community year-round. Cicero Farms also sponsored Halloween, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s, Easter and July 4 events for thousands of schoolchildren.

“Sue” Miller doesn’t care about your community or the damage created by suing local entrepreneurs who stand in the way.

I’m mad. I’m mad at my elected officials for kowtowing to this kind of scum. I’m mad at invisible political wanna-bes who only come out in an election year to show how much they care about their community. I’m mad at elected officials who say they want to eliminate gangs, and drugs, then limply watch as community icons, such as Cicero Farms, are allowed to fall by the wayside.

And I’m frustrated with the thousands who take your children to the Cicero Farms and don’t even know that it is scheduled to close Thursday.

If you’re mad and don’t know what to do about it, tell your elected officials you’re going to vote them out of office if they don’t save Cicero Farms.
