Since John Robinson resigned at the end of the 1982 season, USC is 0-9 against Notre Dame, 4-3-1 against UCLA and 2-5 in bowl games.
Robinson was 6-1 against Notre Dame, 5-2 against UCLA, 4-1 in bowl games. Robinson’s predecessor, John McKay, was 8-6-2 against Notre Dame, 10-5-1 against UCLA, 6-3 in bowl games.
Larry Smith, 1-1 against the Irish while coach at Arizona, is the first coach to lose five consecutive games in the USC-Notre Dame series. . . . Notre Dame’s Ara Parseghian was winless in six consecutive games against USC, including ties in 1968 and 1969, before the Irish ended the streak during a national championship season in 1973. . . . The starting time for USC’s game against 10th-ranked Cal Saturday at Berkeley has been changed to 12:30 p.m. to accommodate ABC-TV, which will televise the game regionally. . . . Nose tackle Mike Hinz (ankle) is expected to sit out the Cal game.
