State Lottery

The lottery is fulfilling its commitment to the people of the state: turning over 34% of every dollar collected to the state school system. This money is a plus, a bonus, and could provide extras for our students.

If the Legislature chooses to reduce its contribution to the schools, blame the legislators (and those of us who continue to vote them into office). The fact that the lottery contribution is 3% of the school budget is a simple division calculation and reflects the size of the total budget.
