DEC Introduces Several Products: Digital Equipment Corp., the nation’s No. 3 computer company, unveiled an array of products that analysts said will make it more competitive. They include a more powerful version of the VAX mainframe, Network Application Support software and a new line of software licensing products. Maynard, Mass.-based Digital said the reduced instruction set computing--or RISC--technology in the new VAX is faster than that in the machines of its chief rivals, IBM and Hewlett-Packard. Digital said the new VAX and new software will enable customers to network more easily with products from other companies.
