Midwest Barometer Indicates Expansion: A Midwest indicator of business activity rose in October, running counter to most figures showing the economy falling back after a brief rebound. The Chicagoland Business barometer rose to 56.3, the Purchasing Management Assn. of Chicago said. A figure of 50 or more indicates an expanding economy.
