A Saugus man has been arrested on suspicion of helping an Acton relative kidnap his estranged wife and two toddlers in the state of Washington, authorities said Thursday.

Craig Jurkiewicz, 29, was arrested Wednesday night and was being held at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station while authorities in Yakima County, Wash., arrange for his extradition, deputies there and in Los Angeles County said.

Jurkiewicz traveled to Washington last month with John Logan Capps, 43, and helped Capps locate his wife, Connie, and their two young sons, said Lt. Stewart Graham of the Yakima County Sheriff’s Department. The exact connection between Jurkiewicz and Capps could not be confirmed Thursday, but sheriff’s deputies said they were related by marriage.

The pair spent three or four days before Connie Capps’ abduction “scouting around to see when they could find her home alone,” Graham said. Jurkiewicz also acted as a “lookout man” for Capps, Graham said.

Capps confronted his wife at a relative’s home on Oct. 10, according to Yakima sheriff’s deputies. He subdued her with an electronic stun gun, which temporarily paralyzes its victims, and then handcuffed and bound her with duct tape, deputies said.

Capps drove his wife and sons, ages 2 and 4, back to Acton. But he was persuaded by deputies to release them unharmed. A few days later, on Oct. 18, he was arrested at his home in the 3700 block of Cory Avenue after an 11-hour standoff with deputies.

Capps remained in custody at the Los Angeles County Jail on Thursday. He has not been sent to Washington yet because he faces at least two unrelated criminal charges here, deputies said.
