A former U.S. Postal Service employee has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to stealing updated post office mailing lists and selling them to companies that utilize them for mass mailings.
Ellsworth (Sandy) Kiser has already agreed to pay a $32,000 fine and could receive a maximum of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced Feb. 3.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Marian McGuire said Kiser worked at a post office in Chula Vista that would add, correct or delete addresses from private mailing lists, and charge 15 cents for each change as a source of revenue for the Postal Service.
Kiser formed his own company, “The Address Source,” stole the corrected addresses from the Postal Service and sold them himself for 10 cents each.
According to court records, Kiser cost the Postal Service more than $30,000 in revenue.
He pleaded guilty Thursday before U.S. District Judge Marilyn L. Huff.
