MOORPARK : College OKs Plan to Distribute Condoms

Share

Moorpark College students have won an agreement from school officials to increase the distribution of condoms on campus and to augment the college’s AIDS education program.

Officials have agreed to allow free distribution of condoms at the college’s health office, the women’s center and the student government office, Acting President Roger Boedecker said Friday.

Since 1988, condoms have been available on campus only through restroom vending machines in the Campus Center. The machines, which are located in one women’s and one men’s restroom, are frequently jammed and inoperable, students complained at an Oct. 19 seminar on acquired immune deficiency syndrome. In addition, the machines’ labels have been torn off, making it difficult for students to know how to operate the machines or what they sell, students and officials said.

Students at the seminar also complained about a general lack of AIDS information on campus, student senator Jason Henderson said.
