PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Not Aware of AIDS Tests, Players Say

From Staff and Wire Reports

Several Philadelphia Eagles say the team gave them no special consent forms and no counseling when testing players for AIDS before the season.

Scott Burris, a lawyer who specializes in AIDS-related cases, said the team violated state law by not obtaining a separate informed consent before testing and by not conducting pre- and post-test counseling.

Team president Harry Gamble said Thursday that all the players signed consent forms before they were tested and had the option of refusing. The consents were part of a standard authorization form that included other tests, Gamble said.

Although the players recalled filling out a 10-page questionnaire, many of them said they were unaware the test was done.
