Mike Witt, who signed as a free agent by the New York Yankees Jan. 2 and then pitched only twice because of an injured elbow, was sent outright to Columbus of the International League. Witt, 31, signed an $8-million, three-year contract, but pitched only 5 1/3 innings in 1991.
