From Staff and Wire Reports

Shortstop Dick Schofield filed for free agency after his agent, Dan Grigsby, said contract discussions with the Angels had stalled. Grigsby also filed for free agency on behalf of infielder Donnie Hill.

Schofield hit .225 last season. His re-signing was declared a priority by new Angel player personnel director Whitey Herzog, but Grigsby said the offer made by the club was unsatisfactory. Two other key Angel players, first baseman Wally Joyner and pitcher Kirk McCaskill, also filed for free agency earlier this week.
