EC Seeks Trade Compromise With U.S.: The European Community will push the United States to drop its system of unilateral trade sanctions in return for making concessions on agriculture in General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade negotiations, diplomats said in Brussels. The EC has consistently opposed U.S. trade legislation that ultimately allows unilateral sanctions if an issue that Washington raises is not resolved to its satisfaction. The timing of a renewed attack on such legislation is significant just before a U.S.-EC summit in The Hague on Saturday, they said.
