GARDEN GROVE : Police Seek Motive in Stabbing Death

Share

Police said Monday that they do not know what prompted a 24-year-old man to fatally stab his wife of 11 years and then turn the knife on himself.

Carmina Godinez, 27, was stabbed repeatedly in the head, neck and torso Sunday in her apartment, at 12131 Chapman Ave. Police responding to the attack said they saw Raul Corrales plunging a large kitchen knife into his own neck as they arrived.

Corrales was hospitalized at UCI Medical Center in Orange. A report on his condition was not available Monday night.

“It’s not real clear exactly what took place,” said Detective Dave Dierking. “It’s not real clear what prompted this.”

Dierking said Godinez and Corrales were married in Mexico and had lived in the apartment for about a year. One or more of the couple’s three children, two girls and a boy aged 3 to 10, may have seen the incident, he said, but they have been too upset to speak to investigators.
