Breakup of Yugoslavia

I was fascinated by Radomir Licina’s charge of bias (Commentary, Oct. 25) in the news coverage of Slovenia’s declaration of independence and the invasion that followed. He complained that Cable News Network’s visuals showed Yugoslav tanks attacking Slovenian towns and Yugoslav jets attacking civilian targets.

He goes on to say that once it was known that the Yugoslav army suffered three times the losses of the Slovenes “it was too late to correct a wrong, one-sided impression.” What impression would this be? That Slovene civilians can whip three times their weight in Yugoslav soldiers? It can’t be that the Slovenes countered with an invasion of Yugoslavia with their tanks and their jets because they didn’t invade anybody and they didn’t have tanks or jets.
