SIMI VALLEY : Councilman Attends His Last Meeting

Share

Retiring Simi Valley Councilman Glen McAdoo bid his colleagues and residents farewell in a brief speech delivered at his last council meeting.

“It’s been a blast, folks,” said McAdoo, who has served on the council since 1984. “It’s been fun all the way.”

McAdoo, whose term does not expire until November, 1992, announced last month that he would step down because his employer is relocating from Los Angeles to Riverside County. McAdoo was recently promoted to branch manager of Coca Cola U.S.A.

Council members praised McAdoo for the time and energy that he devoted to the city and for his willingness to speak his mind. “It’s not always been to your benefit,” Mayor Greg Stratton said. “But you told people the truth. And I think we all admire that.”

Councilman Bill Davis, his voice trembling as he spoke, told McAdoo that he will miss his friendship.

“I’ve worked with Glen for about five years,” Davis said. “He has a big heart and he cares about people. I hope to carry on some of the work he created.”

“I love you all,” McAdoo said. “This is a great city, and it will always be home to me.”

City officials said it will be up to the council to decide whether to leave McAdoo’s seat open, appoint a new council member to finish the term or hold a special election in April.
