Union Carbide Announces Acid-Rain Technology: The company’s specialty chemicals division has tested a system that uses amine salt to absorb the sulfur dioxide created by power plants and other facilities, allowing it to be recycled into such products as fertilizer. Current methods create waste sludge that usually is disposed of in landfills. The technology, called Cansolv, can recover up to 99% of the sulfur dioxide from plant emissions, the company said.
