Inventors Feted at Awards Dinner

Twenty Orange County inventors who received U.S. patents for their work were honored at an awards dinner sponsored by Beckman Instruments Inc. of Fullerton.

Honored were J. Harvey Beery, Karen E. Lang and Richard C. Meyer, all of La Habra; Edmund E. Buzza, Ronald C. Johnson and Samuel G. Ricchio of Fullerton, and William M. Blough Jr. and Shelley L. Joe of Brea.

Others were Charles L. Dodson, James C. Osborne and Joseph F. Quint of Orange, Harold F. Fechtner and Robert L. Schmidt of Yorba Linda, and Orlando R. Flores and David L. Goodale of Anaheim.

Also honored were Linda J. Grant of Santa Ana, Mark P. Levine of Laguna Beach, Alice C. Liu of Mission Viejo, Michael Whelan of Anaheim Hills and Stephen W. Wunderly of Irvine.

Patricia Noyes Prentiss, a commercial pilot who flies jets out of John Wayne Airport, was named Woman Pilot of the Year for the southwest section of the United States by Ninety-Nine Inc., an international organization of women pilots.

The Newport Beach woman, who is also a licensed general contractor, was recognized for “her dedication to the aviation community.”

Anaheim resident John A. Heberling, a communications specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California, has been presented the John W. Cartright “Sunshine Award” for service to fellow employees and the community. He was honored by the Los Angeles Chapter of the International Organization of Business Communicators.

Norman Nager, professor of communications at Cal State Fullerton, has been elected to the Public Relations Society of America’s College of Fellows, one of the highest honors available to public relations professionals.

The Westminster resident has been teaching public relations at the university for 15 years and has written two public relations books.

Before teaching, he worked as a public relations consultant to aerospace and medical organizations and was a director of public relations for Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach.

Elinor F. Parker, a Dana Point resident and third-year student at Western State University College of Law in Irvine, has been presented the $2,500 Scott McCune scholarship award.

Fullerton resident Sara McFerrin, chairwoman of the Fullerton College music department, has been named to the board of directors of the Los Angeles Master Chorale Assn.

Brunilda Nunez-Cronk, a Spanish and social science professor at Golden West College, was presented with the 1991 Outstanding Hispanic Educators Award by the Irvine Council of the League of United Latin American Citizens.

Eileen Elizabeth Padberg, 47, of Laguna Niguel has been appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson to the Commission on the Status of Women, which deals with issues affecting women.

A self-employed political consultant and a Republican, Padberg is a President Bush appointee to the Small Business Administration National Advisory Council.

David Barby, Robert Goldman and Peter Wilson have been elected partners in Latham & Watkins, the eighth-largest law firm in the country. They work in the Orange County office of the firm.
