A Forfeit to Gangs: Was It Cowardice or the Right Move?

Safety is an understandable concern of the Banning school community. However, rather than overemphasizing the problem, perhaps the focus should have been on the various solutions presented to them.

Choosing to forfeit the game sent a message to the gang members across the city that their actions do influence the decisions of those who are responsible for the welfare of high school students.

Gang violence is a growing epidemic led by a relatively small number of individuals. This minority becomes empowered and self-righteous when the majority group retreats rather than confront the problem. There are no easy answers or solutions, but how many of our traditions and lifestyles must we give up?
