An attorney for Eric Ramsey said he has been keeping a low profile and staying away from suspicious packages in the mail since the former Auburn University football player went public with charges of NCAA violations.

Donald Watkins said he gets about 10-15 hate messages every day.

“It’s the kind of language to the effect, ‘Tell Mr. Watkins we’re going to take care of him,’ ” Watkins said, adding that Ramsey, who is in seclusion, also gets the same kinds of warnings.

Ramsey, 23, alleged that Auburn boosters and coaches gave him money and other benefits in violation of NCAA rules and has released secret tape recordings he made to back up his claims.

The anger of the Tigers’ fans was seen at a recent Auburn game. The words “Ramsey Must Die” were written in white shoe polish on a car parked at Jordan-Hare Stadium, Sports Illustrated reported this week.

In the stadium, some Auburn fans wore T-shirts with a circle-and-slash symbol over photos of Ramsey’s face.
