In the Style section (“World-Wise,” by Barbara Foley, Oct. 6), you show a model wearing “environmentally conscious” Mephisto sandals. But leather clothing has never been environmentally conscious, especially since cows expel methane gas, which is linked to an increase in the hole in the ozone and may be contributing to global warming. But how would Michael Segal know? His father’s store Fred Segal for a Better Ecology includes a large Esprit section complete with leather shoes.
