Ruth Phillips; Actress and Playwright

Ruth Phillips, 65, an actress who later in her career began writing plays, two of which won awards. Her “Four Women,” which ran locally at the Burbage Theatre in 1989, won the Maude Adams Award from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and “Emily and Kate” won the Julie Harris Playwright Award from the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild. Her other plays include “The Birthin’ of Primavera’s Foal,” performed in New Orleans, and “Gigi Plinhoffer and the Love Me Daddy Blues.” As an actress, she had a recurring role on the daytime soap opera “General Hospital” in addition to film and TV appearances. In Los Angeles on Oct. 24 of cancer.
