One man was killed and a second escaped with minor injuries when a pair of gunmen opened fire as the victims sat in a car in Sun Valley, Los Angeles police said Monday.

Andalberto Angulo Sicairos, 47, of Bell Gardens died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. His companion, Jose Luis Labrada, 26, of Inglewood was treated for a single, superficial wound in the chest at Holy Cross Hospital and released, said Lt. John Waters.

The two had just left a grocery store in the 7800 block of Lemp Avenue and were sitting in a car parked outside the store when a white Cadillac drove up, Waters said. Two men, each armed with a semi-automatic gun, got out of the Cadillac and opened fire, Waters said.

No arrests had been made Monday, and the motive for the shooting, which occurred about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, remained unknown, Waters said.

He said that it did not appear to be gang-related.

“We don’t even know why they were out here,” Detective Mike Coffey said of the victims.
