Buyers at ‘Brideshead’: Buyers, including many private bidders from America, spent $2.1 million at an auction Monday at Castle Howard, the stately estate seen in the PBS series “Brideshead Revisited.” Sotheby’s auctioners collected more money in a few hours than they expected to raise in the entire three-day sale. The auction of paintings, antiques, jewelry, silver, furniture and wine was expected to raise $1.4 million toward the cost of restoring part of the 18th-Century Yorkshire mansion.
