NATION IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Storm Brings Up to 20 Inches of Snow

A major storm dropped as much as 20 inches of snow on Wyoming and threatened to spread snow as far south as the high country of Arizona and New Mexico. Rain was scattered from Oregon to Tennessee, and snow was falling over the central Rockies. The storm dumped 20 inches of snow at Arrowhead Lodge, Wyo., for a total of 26 inches on the ground, and Bear Lodge reported 15 inches of new snow for a total of 23 inches, the National Weather Service said. The storm also brought as much as 4 inches of snow to the area of Reno, Nev. Dense fog in parts of southern Minnesota cut visibility to as much as zero, forcing Northwest Airlines to cancel 13 flights heading into Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and to divert about 20 other flights. Thursday’s low for the Lower 48 states was 17 degrees at Gunnison, Colo.
