CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : CHOWCHILLA : Pickup Driver Dies in Train Collision

An Amtrak passenger train struck and killed an elderly Madera County man who allegedly could not see the train coming because of 90 boxcars that had been left on adjoining tracks for months. Homer Abshire, 80, was driving his pickup on a private dirt drive across three sets of Santa Fe tracks when he was killed, the California Highway Patrol reported.
