Widow Says Maxwell May Have Fallen: Elisabeth Maxwell, widow of publisher Robert Maxwell, whose death remains mysterious two weeks after his body was found floating off the Canary Islands, said he could have simply fallen off his yacht. “I think it is very, very possible that he slipped,” Elisabeth Maxwell said in an interview with a private French television station. The death of the 68-year-old publishing tycoon has sparked theories ranging from accidental death to suicide and murder. She said the only explanation she had ruled out was suicide, specifying that her stated belief that the death was accidental did not exclude murder.
