Debate Over Energy Policy
Bush’s energy plan is sick--exactly what one would expect from a Houston oil man and longstanding member of the military-industrial complex. Same as always, our President wants to sacrifice the interests of all Americans so that rich people in big corporations can make even more money. In this case, specifically, he suggests destroying the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge so oil companies can make a fast, dirty profit.
Also, he wants to build more nuclear plants when, so far as we know, there is no way to safely store the radioactive waste for thousands of years, and no place to throw it away!
We must develop alternatives to dirty oil and dangerous nukes. Unfortunately, Congress is almost as beholden to the same corporate interests as the President. Where will leadership on this vital issue come from?
