Bryden Thomson; Guided Scottish National Orchestra
Bryden Thomson, the former principal conductor and music director of the Scottish National Orchestra, died Thursday) of cancer, a spokeswoman for the London Philharmonic said. He was 63.
Thomson died in Dublin, Ireland, where he and his wife made their home, the spokeswoman said. Thomson was principal conductor for the Glasgow-based orchestra from 1988 until last summer.
Thomson studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and at the Staatliche Hoechschule fur Musik in Hamburg, Germany.
He was principal conductor of BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra, BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra and Dublin’s RTE Symphony Orchestra.
From 1977-85, he was principal conductor and artistic director of Ulster Orchestra in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
