3D Systems’ Parent Reports $3.4-Million Loss

Buffeted by a continued soft economy, 3-D Systems Inc. of Vancouver, Canada, whose principal operating unit is 3D Systems Inc. of Valencia, reported a third-quarter loss on a steep drop in revenue.

3D makes machines that are used by various manufacturers to build prototypes.

In the quarter that ended Sept. 27, 3-D lost $3.42 million, while its revenue fell 40% to $4.28 million. A year earlier, 3-D earned $14,722 on $7.21 million in revenue.

In the latest nine-month period, 3-D lost $7.1 million, contrasted with a $544,506 profit a year before. Revenue declined 30% to $14.8 million from $21.5 million.
