The names of the San Diego police officers who were involved in the shooting death Friday night of a robbery suspect at Fashion Valley mall were released Monday by police officials.

The officers were Sgt. Robert Tryon, 35, a 12-year veteran of the department; Malacha Dowding, 25, who has two years on the force; Robert Nalli, 40, a policeman for 18 months; Steven Higgins, 28, a two-year veteran, and Robert Minton, 35, on the force for one year.

Norman Lamont Jones, 31, of San Diego, allegedly pointed a toy handgun at the five officers who, with weapons drawn, had ordered Jones to surrender, Police Lt. Tom Orden said. Jones, who reportedly robbed a Woolworth’s store, had run through the crowded mall to his car in a parking lot. When Jones did not comply with the order to put down his gun, he was shot several times, police said.
