VET AID: Local congressmen say Orange County needs its own regional office for veterans. Concerned that the county’s 243,000 vets must travel elsewhere to settle claims and collect benefits, the five congressmen, led by Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove), have joined in a letter to President Bush’s secretary of veterans affairs seeking help. . . . “Veterans shouldn’t have to drive all the way to Los Angeles,” Dornan says. The letter points out that California has 11% of the nation’s veterans, and two-thirds of those live in the Southland.
