La Verne : Fewer Hours at City Hall

Share

Beginning next year, the La Verne City Hall will be open an hour longer Monday through Thursdays, but will be closed on Fridays.

With operating hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the four days, employees will have a 36-hour week. When combined with a new salary agreement approved Monday by the City Council, the plan could save the city more than $230,000 over the next two to three years, officials said.

Instead of directly reducing employee salaries, the arrangement--agreed to earlier by the employees’ union, the San Bernardino Public Employees’ Assn.--freezes pay for the 65 City Hall and city yard workers until their salaries are 10% less than pay rates in cities of similar size.

In addition to this direct cost savings, Assistant City Manager Jeffry Allred predicted the move will reduce traffic to and from City Hall, and will save utility costs.

Police, fire and building inspection services and Community Center activities will not be affected.
