Teachers Must Help New Students Adjust

Share

It is disappointing to read about Torrance educators blaming incoming students new to their area, whether they are transfers or on special permits, for contributing to gang problems, lowering their academic standards and adding to their discipline problems. Any student, new to a district, needs time to adjust to the change. I always felt it was the educator’s job to help that student fit into the programs and school atmosphere. Standards are not lowered by students; they are developed by educators.
