Pepperdine Gets $1-Million Grant to Aid Minorities
Pepperdine University has received a $1-million grant from National Medical Enterprises, a Santa Monica-based health care service company, to expand financial aid for minority students and support efforts to broaden the Malibu school’s curriculum to better reflect the contributions of non-Western cultures, officials announced Friday.
“Through our gift, we foresee helping scores of students attend Pepperdine University who otherwise would not have this enriching opportunity,” said Richard Eamer, National Medical Enterprises chairman and chief executive officer.
David Davenport, Pepperdine’s president, said the firm’s gift was the first major contribution the university has received in its drive to create a $5-million endowment fund to recruit and retain students from underrepresented minority groups.
