He’s (Still) a Rebel

I would like to thank Hilburn for the inside truth on Spector. After reading the story, I felt so sorry for him. He claims to have changed and that he wants to make a comeback; he’s pushing a greatest-hits collection to get back in the public eye.

I for one think Spector is still living in his own little world. He still thinks he is better than anyone else. Comments he made--”Their future is all in the past. I’m sorry that they all didn’t become Diana Ross, but neither did the Marvelettes”--you know he’s aiming at his ex-wife Ronnie.

My friend Mable John, the R&B; star and sister of the late great Little Willie John, once told me: “You’ve got to love yourself first, before you can love anyone else.” Spector doesn’t love himself.

I’m overjoyed that Ronnie Spector wrote a book and has learned to deal with her problems. Maybe that’s what Phil Spector really needs--to know who he is, not just some person who produced hit records.
