Hire Police, Don’t Buy Back Guns
Once again Councilman Daniel E. Griset is trying to make the streets of Santa Ana safer, and once again he is way off base. First, he rid them of the “evil” swap meets and now he wants to rid them of guns.
The problem is not that there are too many guns on the streets of Santa Ana. The problem is that there are too many criminals and not enough police. The money used in this gun buy-back should be used to staff the well-understaffed Santa Ana Police Department.
The councilman must realize that the guns turned in for cash won’t be the guns we need to worry about. The criminals will definitely keep theirs. His plan is not an answer; it’s a smoke screen.
