The fence alarm at Las Colinas Men’s Jail in Santee has been repaired after more than four months of not working, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The alarm was fully operational at 1 p.m. Monday, Sheriff’s Lt. John Walker said.

The minimum-security jail had gone without sensors on its 16-foot-high, razor-wire-topped fence since lightning damaged it in July. The sensors notify guards when the fence is touched.

Repairs were delayed by problems with the alarm’s computer program and with electronic equipment, said Tom Dumont, deputy director of facilities services for the county Department of General Services.
