Officer Charged in Shooting Is Fired

The Long Beach Police Department this week fired an officer charged with shooting a Santa Ana man during a traffic dispute in Fountain Valley two months ago, his attorney said Tuesday.

Police Cpl. Alan B. Ice, a 21-year-veteran of the department, was dismissed on Monday. Police officials said in the dismissal letter that Ice “intentionally and without justification” discharged his gun during the Sept. 28 confrontation with Santa Ana resident Neil Cramer, who was hospitalized. Cramer has since been released.

Ice, who has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, is free on $25,000 bail. One of Ice’s attorneys, James E. Trott, said he plans to appeal the dismissal to the city’s Civil Service Commission.
