PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Injuries to Price, Phifer Really Hurt

Share

Coach John Robinson said Tuesday that the season-ending ankle injuries suffered by tight end Jim Price and linebacker Roman Phifer during Monday night’s 33-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers dealt a blow to the Rams’ chances in their final four games.

“Roman, particularly, (was) just starting to come on, and the last four games would have been a major springboard for him into next season,” Robinson said.

Two weeks ago, the Rams lost left tackle Gerald Perry and rookie cornerback Robert Bailey for the season.

“We’ll certainly get a chance to look at other players,” Robinson said. “Three of those four guys are rookie-type players, and (Perry) is a new guy who this organization will count on in the future.”

Tailback Marcus Dupree got only 23 yards in 11 carries Monday night, but Robinson, pointing to the lack of blocking, said Dupree showed enough to continue playing this season. “He’s a beginning player,” Robinson said. “I think we will continue to give him an opportunity for the last four games, and then make a judgment where we think he is.” . . . Rookie cornerback Todd Lyght, who got his first NFL interception, played his best NFL game Monday night, according to Robinson. . . . There are 842 unsold tickets remaining for Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins at Anaheim Stadium.
