Ice Rap Heats Up: The controversy over Los Angeles rap artist Ice Cube’s angry “Death Certificate” album escalated this week when Korean-American merchants successfully pressured the San Francisco-based McKenzie River Corp. to stop running radio and television ads for St. Ides malt liquor that featured the singer. About 3,000 Korean merchants pulled the beer from their shelves to protest what they called racist lyrics contained in Ice Cube’s “Black Korea” song. The brewer reportedly agreed to donate up to $90,000 to Korean-American groups.
