The forecast for Sunday is a light rain of corn tortillas as the 16th annual Doo Dah Parade stumbles through Pasadena.

Although Pasadena police have detained rowdy food-tossing parade spectators in the past, no one is expected to get arrested for the lunacy, high jinks and humor that will fill the streets from noon to 2 p.m. during the Tournament of Roses Parade spoof.

Snotty Scotty and the Hankies, The Synchronized Briefcase Drill Team, and the Unknown Shoppers--which have become the more traditional units of past parades--and other iconoclasts and gadflies of questionable taste and aesthetics will be on hand.

The parade, featuring 125 units, starts at Holly Street and Raymond Avenue, wends its way along eight blocks in the heart of Old Pasadena and finishes at Central Park.

Once a scruffy rebel that offended the city’s powers that be, the parade is now broadcast on television (Channel 13) and climaxes the Thanksgiving weekend festivities in Old Pasadena.

Those events include the Old Pasadena Gallery Hop from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. More than a dozen galleries along Colorado Boulevard and Raymond and Fair Oaks avenues will stay open late to offer previews of their holiday merchandise.

Saturday, it’s the Old Pasadena Holiday Open House from noon to 10 p.m. The area’s 150 merchants and restaurants will provide refreshments and give away small gifts. Christmas carolers and Santa Claus will walk the streets.

Old Pasadena is bounded by Arroyo Parkway, Pasadena Avenue and Union and Green streets.
