Segregation Is Still Racist

Share

How is it that the Black Student Union at Ventura High School is not racist, but a proposed White Student Union is racist? Both are separatist, failing to allow students of different backgrounds to learn about each other. Both promote segregation. Neither should be permitted.

If students with a common racial, ethnic or religious background want to create exclusive organizations and socialize only with others like themselves, they should do so off campus. On campus, only inclusive organizations should be allowed--organizations that provide forums where white students can learn about black history and culture and where black students can learn about European history and culture. This is the only way our schools can effectively use education to end racial bigotry.

Segregation is no better when practiced by members of a minority group.
