Community Policing
THE PROGRAM: The Los Angeles Police Department has assigned 31 officers to full-time community relations duty in the San Fernando Valley. The officers, who in the past spent only a few hours a month on such duty, now work full-time with neighborhood organizations and individuals. One of the 31 areas is described below:
Mission Hills
THE OFFICER: Joel Justice, Foothill Division (818) 989-8861
THE AREA: Justice patrols the Mission Hills portion of the Foothill Division, a generally quiet collection of middle-class homes interspersed with some retail outlets. Justice says the main crime problem on his beat has been residential burglaries, with the thieves typically stealing cash, jewelry and electronics equipment.
