OUTLOOK

Probably the deepest and most experienced team in the league, the Trojans return four starters--including three all-league selections--from last year’s third-place team. Add to that Smith, a varsity-caliber player who was the most valuable player on the 22-1 junior varsity team, and you have a strong nucleus of talent. Still, Sorey sees a couple of weaknesses. “I think our depth is as good as it’s ever been, but I don’t have anyone to backup Nicole (Gallardo) at the point,” Sorey said. Gallardo, who will also be the goalkeeper on the school’s soccer team, was a second-team all-league pick. Sorey also is trying to make sure trouble with fouls won’t limit the effectiveness of Loud, one of the Trojans’ formidable weapons. Loud averaged 10.8 points last season, but in 10 league games, she had 42 fouls and fouled out six times. “We’re just trying to make Christie realize how much better we are when she’s in the ball game,” Sorey said. “I don’t think there’s any doubt we’re a much superior team when she’s in there.” Loud will be backed up by Dittmer and Pederson, who moved with her family to Irvine from Norway. Wolff, a first-team all-league pick, shoots well from outside.
