United Projects Record Losses: United Airlines said the weak economy and discount pricing in the industry mean that it will post record losses for the fourth quarter and full year. United’s parent company, Chicago-based UAL Corp., will record a fourth-quarter net loss steeper than its record $123.5-million loss in the fourth quarter of 1990, spokeswoman Lynn Martenstein said. Together with the loss of $79.3 million posted in the first nine months of 1991, the fourth-quarter results will bring UAL’s loss for the year to more than $202.8 million. The airline’s previous record loss was $112.8 million in 1986, Martenstein said.
