No-Problem Pets: Pets often are given as cuddly Christmas gifts, only to become unwanted or neglected after the holidays.

But the Santa Ana Zoo seems to have a found a solution to the problem of giving kittens that grow up to be cats.

In its own store at Crystal Court, next to South Coast Plaza, shoppers can adopt any of the zoo’s more than 400 animals at prices ranging from $25 to $1,000 and then “give” the animal as a Christmas present.

That way, the recipients never have to worry about feeding their pets--or grooming them or taking them to the vet. And they will always know where to find the animals.

The Think Shop, as the store is called, is open through Jan. 6 and will also offer a wide assortment of regular gifts, such as mugs, gift baskets and books on animals and the environment.

For those who want to buy a cuddly, no-fuss pet to take home, the store will also sell those of the stuffed variety.
