Glendale : Recycling Pact Extended

The City Council agreed Tuesday to extend its curbside recycling program for a year.
By extending its contract with Stanton-based CR & R Inc., the city won’t have to look for a new trash management firm when a planned city recycling center is completed next year on Flower Street. “We don’t feel it’s a good idea to start out with a new contractor,” Public Works Director George Miller said.
Net cost of the contract is about $14,000 a month. The city pays CR & R $29,000 a month to collect recyclables and then reimburse the city from their sale, which generally runs about $15,000 a month, officials said.
Last year, about 4,800 tons of recyclable trash was collected from residents of single-family homes and apartments and condominiums of up to four units, city waste planner Tom Brady said. About half of Glendale residents participate in the 3-year-old curbside recycling program, he said.
