Downey’s 35th anniversary of incorporation will be the theme of the annual Holiday Lane Parade on Sunday. The parade will include floats, antique automobiles, equestrian units and marching bands bearing birthday cakes and signs of congratulations from local businesses and nearby cities.

The festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Lexington Road and proceed south on Downey Avenue, then west on 3rd Street to the Civic Center.

This year’s grand marshal will be actor Meshach Taylor of the TV show “Designing Women.” Other parade marshals will be Mando Ramos, former world lightweight boxing champion and founder of Boxing Against Alcohol and Drugs, and Judy Duncan, a Warren High School graduate and lead singer for the 1950s singing group the Chordettes. Downey Mayor Barbara J. Hayden and City Council members also will participate.
