A 3-year-old Santa Barbara boy accidentally caused the car he was riding in to roll down an embankment from the Ventura Freeway on Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Anthony Vargas; his mother, Dolores Archer, and three other children suffered minor injuries, said California Highway Patrol Officer T.J. McAllister.

Archer was driving her compact car south on the Ventura Freeway, near the Telephone Road exit, about 3:30 p.m. when Anthony crawled from the back seat to the front and accidentally knocked the car into the parking gear, McAllister said.

It caused the car to skid and tumble down an embankment, McAllister said. Except for Anthony, everyone was wearing seat belts and no one was seriously hurt, McAllister said. Anthony received a minor cut on his forehead. Archer and her four children were taken to Ventura County Medical Center.
